Share buttons and folders between devices

Share using AirDrop

You do not need to be connected to the internet to use AirDrop.

Export selected buttons and folders (sending device)

1. Go inside the folder with the message and folder buttons you want to copy.
2. Tap Edit in the bottom toolbar.
3. Tap the message and folder buttons you want to copy to select them or tap Select All in the Edit Mode toolbar to select all the message and folder buttons.
4. Tap Export/Import in the Edit Mode toolbar.
5. Select Share.
6. If you want, tap the field below File Name and edit the name of the file to be exported. To begin the export, tap Export.
7. Select AirDrop.

Import selected buttons and folders (receiving device)

1. Open the folder in Proloquo2Go that you want to import the new content to via AirDrop.
2. When the selected items are sent via AirDrop, you will receive a message asking you which app you would like to save it to. Tap Proloquo2Go, and you will be asked to confirm that you want to receive the buttons in the current folder. Tap Import to confirm, and then tap OK to close the confirmation message.

Share using Dropbox

To use Dropbox, you must have a Dropbox account and be connected to the internet on a network that allows you to access Dropbox.

Authorize Dropbox on both devices

First, make sure Proloquo2Go can access the same Dropbox account on both devices that you want to share contents between.

1. Tap Settings* in the bottom toolbar.
2. Go to Services.
3. Make sure Dropbox is toggled to ON. If Dropbox is already ON and you want to change the Dropbox account associated with Proloquo2Go, toggle its setting OFF, then ON again.

Export selected buttons and folders

1. Go inside the folder with the message and folder buttons you want to copy.
2. Tap Edit in the bottom toolbar.
3. Tap the message and folder buttons you want to copy to select them or tap Select All in the Edit Mode toolbar to select all the message and folder buttons.

4. Tap Export/Import in the Edit Mode toolbar.
5. Select Export to Dropbox.
6. If you want, tap the field below File Name and edit the name of the file to be exported. To begin the export, tap Export.
7. Tap Export again at the bottom of the screen to confirm. Wait until the progress bar fills and Proloquo2Go confirms the file was successfully exported. Tap OK.
8. Tap Done in the top right corner of the screen to exit Edit Mode.

Import selected buttons and folders

1. On the second device, navigate into the folder you want to import the saved contents to.
2. Tap Edit in the bottom toolbar.
3. Tap Export/Import in the Edit Mode toolbar.
4. Select Import from Dropbox.
5. When the list of Dropbox contents loads, tap the row showing the name of the file you want to import.
6. Tap Import. Wait for the file contents to import and the “Successfully Imported from Dropbox” message to appear. Tap OK.
7. You may want to change the placement of the buttons. For instructions, see Change the order of buttons in a folder.
8. Tap Done to exit Edit Mode.

Share using iTunes File Sharing

To use iTunes File Sharing, you must have access to a computer with iTunes installed. You will need to physically connect the device running Proloquo2Go to the computer using its charging cable.

Export selected buttons and folders

1. Go inside the folder with the message and folder buttons you want to copy.
2. Tap Edit in the bottom toolbar.
3. Tap the message and folder buttons you want to copy to select them or tap Select All in the Edit Mode toolbar to select all the message and folder buttons.
4. Tap Export/Import in the Edit Mode toolbar.
5. Select Export to iTunes File Sharing.
6. If you want, tap the field below File Name to edit the name of the file to be exported. To begin the export, tap Export.
7. Tap Export again at the bottom of the screen to confirm. Wait until Proloquo2Go confirms the file was successfully exported. Tap OK.
8. Tap Done in the top right corner of the screen to exit Edit Mode.

Save the file to your computer or a USB stick

1. Open iTunes and connect your computer using its charging cable.
2. Click the device’s icon in the upper left corner of the iTunes window.
3. In the left sidebar, click File Sharing.
4. In the list of apps, select Proloquo2Go.
5. You will see a list of files. Files with exported buttons and folders end in the extension .p2g. Select the file you want to save, then click Save to…
6. You can rename the file, just make sure to keep the .p2g extension. Choose where you want to save the file to, then click Save.

Transfer the file to another device

1. Open iTunes and connect the second device to your computer using its charging cable.
2. Click the device’s icon in the upper left corner of the iTunes window.
3. In the left sidebar, click File Sharing.
4. In the list of apps, select Proloquo2Go.
5. Click Add… at the bottom of the Proloquo2Go Documents list.
6. Navigate to and select the file ending in .p2g that you want to update to Proloquo2Go. Click Add.

Saving and transferring files on macOS Catalina

On macOS 10.15 Catalina, file sharing is done within the Finder since Catalina does not have iTunes. For instructions, see the Apple Support document Sync files from your Mac to iPhone or iPad.

Import the file’s contents into your vocabulary

1. On the second device, open Proloquo2Go. Navigate into the folder where you want to import the file’s contents.
2. Tap Edit in the bottom toolbar.
3. Tap Export/Import in the Edit Mode toolbar.
4. Select Import from iTunes File Sharing.
5. When the list of iTunes File Sharing contents loads, tap the row showing the name of the file you want to import.
6. Select Import. Wait for the file contents to import, then dismiss the “Successfully Imported from iTunes” message.

7. Tap Done to exit Edit Mode

Share using online storage services

To use online storage services, you must have an account for the service and an app for the service installed on your device.

Export selected buttons and folders

1. Go inside the folder with the message and folder buttons you want to copy.
2. Tap Edit in the bottom toolbar.
3. Tap the message and folder buttons you want to copy to select them or tap Select All in the Edit Mode toolbar to select all the message and folder buttons.
4. Tap Export/Import in the Edit Mode toolbar.
5. Select Share.
6. If you want, tap the field below File Name and edit the name of the file to be exported. To begin the export, tap Export.
7. Available online storage services will appear at the top. Select the online storage service you want to use.

Import selected buttons and folders

1. On the second device, navigate into the folder you want to import the saved contents to.
2. Open your online storage service app (e.g. Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive).
3. Tap the name of the file you want to import and open the file. Select Copy to Proloquo2Go at the top. If you do not see Copy to Proloquo2Go, scroll the top row of apps icons left, select More, scroll down, and then tap Copy to Proloquo2Go.
4. Proloquo2Go will open and you will be asked to confirm that you want to receive the buttons in the current folder. Tap Import to confirm, and then tap OK to close the confirmation message.

More information about exporting and importing folders

It is only possible to export and import user-created folders one level deep. Sometimes, you may want to transfer a folder with more folder buttons inside of it. When you open this folder after transferring it, the folder buttons inside it will appear grayed out. They will not respond when tapped. In Edit Mode, you will see a jagged line through these broken folder buttons. For Instructions on how to fix this, see Grayed out folder buttons
