We recognize that there are many situations where privacy can be at stake. We do our best to minimize the risks of compromising someone's privacy in our applications, support system, and the information we provide through our website and social media channels.

Personal Communication

Many of our products are designed to allow our users to communicate. We will never transmit or collect the communication of our users, nor will we process the communication to extract the essence, meaning or intent of the communicated messages. Communication messages are created on the device itself and do not use any connection with AssistiveWare or other parties in the generation process.

Usage Data

In order to improve our products we collect data on their usage (“Usage Data”), including, but not limited to, the application version, device information, application settings and application usage statistics. This data is not linked to the person using the product, nor can it be used to disclose the identity of the user.

In the process of collecting and processing this data we use third party services, such as for example Mixpanel or Google Analytics. We however do not share our data with other parties.

Personal Information

Some, but not all, of our products store personal information outside the device they work on. Which information is transmitted, stored or shared is described per product in the next paragraphs.

Proloquo2Go, Proloquo4Text and simPODD

These applications do not communicate any personal information to AssistiveWare or other third parties. The applications allow the user to store a backup of the user’s vocabulary on a third party cloud storage, such as iCloud, Dropbox or Google Drive. AssistiveWare has no access to these storages.

After explicit consent these applications may ask to share more than basic app usage information with AssistiveWare. This data will not contain any conversations, is processed strictly anonymous. The data is used to improve our products. A description of the data collected can be found at Anonymous data collection in AssistiveWare apps.

Pictello

Pictello offers the use of a Sharing Server. An account on the Sharing Server connects a device with some basic user information such as name and e-mail address. We will use these e-mail addresses only in connection to the Pictello Sharing Server.

Stories shared with other users using the Pictello Sharing Server are stored on AssistiveWare's servers in the United States of America and Europe. AssistiveWare will not disclose the contents of the stories shared. Only the people that receive a story code from the person that uploaded the story can download the story. AssistiveWare may perform anonymous analysis on the stories shared in order to improve the Pictello product.

Keedogo, Keedogo Plus and Keeble

These applications do not communicate any personal information to AssistiveWare or other third parties. For a detailed discussion on keyboards and privacy please see https://www.assistiveware.com/keyboards-privacy.

Wrise

This application does not communicate any personal information to AssistiveWare or other third parties.

Proloquo

Proloquo is set up for a service in which the person that uses Proloquo to speak (“the AAC user”) is supported by a group of people, typically the parents, teacher, and care professionals (“the AAC team”). The AAC user’s vocabulary and app usage is shared among the team members. Specific team members with an admin role control who is part of the AAC team.

Proloquo uses an online cloud system to store the needed to share information between the AAC user and the AAC team members. AssistiveWare’s Support team nor third-party employees have direct access to these files.

In Proloquo the team admin is asked to provide some basic information about the AAC user, such as name, age, and diagnosis. This information is shared within the AAC team, and after explicit consent with AssistiveWare employees to provide better support. The data is not shared with third parties.

After explicit consent, Proloquo has the ability to share more than basic app usage information with AssistiveWare. This data will not contain any conversations, is processed strictly anonymous. The data is used to improve our products.

Proloquo Coach

In Proloquo Coach members of the AAC team (see Proloquo) are supported by articles, exercises, and a connection to AssistiveWare support. Any data shared with AssistiveWare is considered as data shared for the purpose of providing user support. See AssistiveWare Support below for a detailed description.

AssistiveWare Account

As part of the sales of our products, and as part of the AAC team functionality (see Proloquo) we may require you to create an AssistiveWare Account. The account holds basic profile information and is used to identify the user for access to a number of our products. Account data will not be shared with third parties.

Sales Data

In the process of selling our products and services we receive customer data, such as, but not limited to name, address, and email address. We make this data available to our support staff with the intent to provide a better service to individual users.

Payments are handled by third parties, such as, but not limited to Apple, FastSpring and Vimeo. We do not receive or store any payment method related data from these services.

Student data

Proloquo2Go, Proloquo4Text, simPODD and Pictello

AssistiveWare has no access to the student personal data or documents created in our applications. All student data and documents are stored on the device itself. The device administrator or user however may decide to export the data, share it with other users (e.g. using the Pictello Sharing Server - see below). This option may in some cases conflict with student privacy regulations imposed on e.g. schools.

The device administrator or user can store a backup of the device data on a computer, in a cloud storage system, or in another way. AssistiveWare has no access to the backups made to such cloud based storage solutions. As a consequence, any request to delete student data should be made to the school that manages the device.

If the Pictello Sharing Server is used to share Pictello stories with other Pictello users these stories are not protected according to the definition of most student data protection directives. By nature of the purpose of the Pictello Sharing Server the stories can be seen by anyone that has a valid story code. Pictello stories however do not contain personally identifiable information, unless explicitly added in the stories themselves.

All student data and documents shared with AssistiveWare Support will be treated as confidential by AssistiveWare.

Proloquo and Proloquo Coach

AssistiveWare staff has no direct access to the student personal data or documents created in Proloquo. All student data and documents are stored on the device and in a cloud storage system (see Proloquo above).

The device administrator or user can store a backup of the device data on a computer, in a cloud storage system, or in another way. AssistiveWare has no access to the backups made to private cloud based storage solutions. As a consequence, any request to delete student data should also be made to the school that manages the device.

A request to delete the AAC user’s data should can directed to legal@assistiveware.com.

All student data and documents shared with AssistiveWare Support will be treated as confidential by AssistiveWare.

Social Media Channels

All information shared on AssistiveWare public social media channels, such as, but not limited to, the AssistiveWare and Proloquo2Go Facebook page and the AssistiveWare corporate website, is considered to be public. The information is available for everyone and AssistiveWare may decide to republish the information on other social media channels.

The information shared in closed AssistiveWare’s Facebook groups is considered to be public within those groups only. AssistiveWare will not share the information from within these groups outside these groups without permission. AssistiveWare however cannot prevent other group members from sharing this information.

AssistiveWare Support

In contact with our support team users typically share more personal information. This information is used to help the user with his specific problem or question. This data is accessible to employees of AssistiveWare. In specific cases the data may be shared with our product development partners to resolve software related issues. It will not be shared with third parties for other purposes.

Support data is retained for up to three years in order to be able to provide a good support experience to our users. User can request to delete all data from our support systems at any time at legal@assistiveware.com.

AssistiveWare Newsletter

Personal information shared when subscribing to the AssistiveWare newsletter will solely be used to share AssistiveWare product updates, news and other relevant information with subscribers. Personal details will not be shared with third parties.

The use of cookies

Cookies are small files that a site or its service provider transfers to your device through your Web browser (if you allow) that enables the sites or service providers systems to recognize your browser and capture and remember certain information.

We use cookies to recognize you so you don't need to enter your details each time you visit the site.

We also use cookies from Google Analytics, Intercom and HotJar to compile aggregate data about site traffic and site interaction so that we can offer better site experiences and tools in the future. These service providers are not permitted to use the information collected on our behalf except to help us conduct and improve our business.

General exceptions

In some cases, AssistiveWare may explicitly ask for personal information from its users. In these cases, AssistiveWare will clearly state the use of the information shared with AssistiveWare.
