Proloquo2Go 50% off on Autism Acceptance Day - April 2

April is Autism Acceptance Month, and more specifically, April 2 is Autism Acceptance Day! No, this is not a typo. We are shifting from autism awareness to autism acceptance. We need a positive change!

Nobody is the same

When you look at your family and friends, you notice that everyone is different. This variety is what makes the world an interesting and beautiful place. Like anyone else, people with autism want to be accepted just the way they are. Even though awareness is important and a great start, we should not only be aware of the existence of autism - we should aim to understand, accept, respect, include and support autistic people.

Autism acceptance initiative

The initiative for autism acceptance originates from 2011, when Paula Durbin-Westby, who has autism, created a Facebook event titled Autism Acceptance Day after hearing from others who felt hurt by traditional awareness events that didn’t highlight positive aspects of autism.

Get to know them

That is why this month we will share useful resources and stories, both videos and blogs, about adults and kids with autism. Get to know them. See how wonderful they are. And accept them for who they are.

Autism Acceptance Day

Surprise surprise surprise! Proloquo2Go will be discounted 50% on Autism Acceptance Day - April 2. Make sure you spread the word, as this will be a one-day offer! Note that discount also applies to Apple's Volume Purchase Program: if your organization purchases 20 copies or more, you will get an additional 50% off!

Please note: the discount price is based on the US iTunes Store. Prices may vary from country to country.

Will that include proloquo4text?

david's picture

No, the current Autism Acceptance Day offer is only for Proloquo2Go. Perhaps another time we will do something like this for Proloquo4Text.

Just tried to purchase Apr 2 back to full price.

Michelle Robins's picture

I'd love to know too?

Question :-
Can I download this on a touchscreen laptop computer? My iPad doesn't have enough memory.

carol's picture

Judith,

You can purchase Proloquo2Go through iTunes on your computer but please know that it is only compatible with Apple iOS devices such as the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. You can then sync it to your iPad after you clear 3-4GB of space on your iPad.

Hi,

I am in Australia and would love to purchase Proloquo2Go on April 2nd. Will it be April 2nd US date?

david's picture

To be honest we do not know exactly how Apple applies price changes set to a specific date. It may be that for each store it will match the local time zone or it may be that they base it of the US Pacific (or Eastern) time zone. We have not found any documentation on how they handle this. So I would suggest you check on the morning of April 2nd (Australian time) and if it is not discounted yet try again later in the day. We'd love to hear what you find.

Amanda Thiele's picture

Ok great. Thanks

Edward Hood's picture

So I contacted Apple Support on this and got the following response:
"So, the release of products and promotions are typically scheduled for Pacific Standard Time and the price change will be reflected on the App Store as well." - Anthony, case #772357374

Thank you Edward for sharing this information with us. It is much appreciated.

Really need to buy for our special school

david's picture

Sorry about this. But this is a store or VPP issue. We have zero information or control over those kind of issues. Please contact Apple if this is still an issue.

Jenny Hommen's picture

Thanks for asking about Australia- I will definitely be buying

AutismAcceptanceDay's picture

Thank you for doing this! As a person who often can not speak, I know the importance of alternative and augmentative communication. It makes me very happy that some people might be better able to afford this on Autism Acceptance Day! - Paula Durbin-Westby

Thanks Paula!

I will definitely be purchasing this program. It will certainly "open doors" for many

Will this offer apply when buying in the UK?

Pam's picture

Yes, the discount is worldwide.

Sara Merten's picture

So will the price just show up different when searched in the App Store or do we need a discount code or something?

Pam's picture

The discounted price will show up. There is no special code needed.

Amy Hammond's picture

I wish it was on andriod. :(

While we feel that there are great benefits to all the mobile platforms on the market, at this time we prefer to stay focused on iOS as we believe there is a still a lot of innovation that we can bring to the platform.

Michelle Arata's picture

There are so many families that could benefit from this app being available for android. Often they can not afford Apple products. I can't wait for that day regardless of what innovation may be down the line. If anything greater availability (like open source) would lend itself to more innovation.

david's picture

An Android device powerful enough to run Proloquo2Go would not be much cheaper than an iPad. Also, note that there are other AAC apps available for Android so if someone prefers Android over iOS there are options.

Kate Farrell's picture

An iPad and Proloquo2Go is still a whole lot cheaper than buying a dedicated AAC device like a dynavox or similar

Lisa McAvey's picture

That depends on how the device is being funded. Medicaid will pay for a Dynavox or other deducated AAC device. They will not pay for an iPad only the Proloquo2Go

Dawn Hargis's picture

My sons school funded both the ipad and proloquo2go . If he has an IEP you may want to check with school.

Kelly Webb's picture

But when finished with school did they want to take it back like my sons school wants too? My sons school says they get in trouble if they put it on his personal iPad! I wonder if that's true?

Chad Becker's picture

Is it possible to purchase it on the apple store and then later on when I can afford an ipad but it on the device?

Pam's picture

Yes, Chad. You can purchase the app on your computer and then when you get the device, you can install it.

Sarah Smith's picture

What version of this will it be?

david's picture

It will be for version 3.0.5 but version 4 coming end of April will be a free update.

Ken Ross's picture

Is this just for the regular Apple Store or will the discount be offered on the VPP stores as well. More specifically, the Education VPP store.

david's picture

It will also apply for the Educational Volume Purchase Program, so if an educational institutions purchases 20 or more licenses on April 2nd they will get 50% discount on top of the 50% discount.

Karen Gammack's picture

Hi David.

My son's special needs school had a fundraising event a few weeks ago for iPads and P2Go and other apps. In the the UK P2go is £150 so if we were buying 20 licenses - can I check that it would be 50% off for buying a bundle and then 50% off again for April 2nd so £750 for 20 licenses?
Thank you.
We have P2go already and Fin loves it:)

david's picture

With the VPP if you purchase 20 or more licenses at once (through Apple's VPP site) you get 50% off. If you would do that on the 2nd you would essentially be paying only 25% of the regular price. So if the prices you quote are correct I think your math is correct. Best to check on the store on the actual day itself.

Heather Skinner's picture

When you purchase the app, can it only be used on one device? If I have three iPads I will be using for research, would I need to buy it separately for each one?

Pam's picture

Heather, Apple has different licensing rules for personal and educational/ professional use.

For personal use, an individual can install Proloquo2Go on all the devices they use.

There are different licensing rules for schools and other organizations, which require them to purchase one license per device if those devices are used by multiple individuals.

Carlos A. Garza Treviño's picture

Do you know if P2Go already comes in Spanish? If not, will it cost to download the language when it does become available?

david's picture

Proloquo2Go 3 is English only. Spanish will be in Proloquo2Go 4.1 due out this summer and a free update to all Proloquo2Go users. So no extra costs.

Yen Luu's picture

My son was funded by the school an Ipad with Proloqu2Go. Can the school install a second copy into his home Ipad for back-up ? or they have to buy it separately ?

anne's picture

Hi Yen - For personal use, an individual can install Proloquo2Go on all the devices they use. For information on how to make his customizations available on both iPads, please have a look at our FAQ about creating and transferring backups: www.assistiveware.com/support/faq/chapter/41
