On this page you’ll find brief information and resources on discontinued apps - Wrise, Infovox iVox, KeyStrokes, SwitchXS, Proloquo for Mac OS X, and VisioVoice.

Infovox iVox

Launched 2006, retired in 2020.

Installed Infovox iVox voices will remain active/usable on current software/hardware combinations as long as possible, allowing users to re-install their voices on compatible macOS versions.

KeyStrokes

Launched in 1999, retired in 2017.

In 2002, KeyStrokes was the first AT product for Mac OS X. It has provided access to Mac OS X for people with motor-disabilities who could not use a physical keyboard. Over the years, it has developed into the gold standard for on-screen keyboards.

Since macOS High Sierra (10.13) includes an on-screen keyboard that provides essential on-screen keyboard functionality right inside macOS AssistiveWare decided to discontinue the product.

If you own a license of Keystrokes, you can download a copy of the software here. KeyStrokes will not be able to run on 10.14.

Proloquo for Mac OS X

The original Mac OS Proloquo was launched in 2005 and discontinued as of 2015.

Proloquo was the first Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) solution for Mac OS X.

Note - this is a different app, unrelated to the app by the same name, launched in 2022 for iOS.

This (original) Proloquo app for MacOS was discontinued since, over time, the demand for a MacOS-only AAC app diminished, especially with the launch of the iPhone and iPad.

SwitchXS

Launched in 2003, retired in 2015.

SwitchXS was the first product to provide access to Mac OS X for switch users. It has served many people well for many years, but Apple has continued to improve the built-in Mac accessibility features. Sales of SwitchXS have been discontinued because macOS offers most of the scanning features SwitchXS was originally designed for. You can find all these features in the Switch Control section of the Accessibility panel of the System Preferences. In many ways, Switch Control surpasses SwitchXS and has become a better option for switch users wanting to access macOS. Additionally, it is free and pre-installed as part of macOS.

VisioVoice

Launched in 2006, discontinued as of 2015.

VisioVoice was the first third-party product to provide access to Mac OS X for people with vision impairments. Since macOS has evolved to offer most of the zoom features VisioVoice was originally designed for, we have discontinued the product.

Wrise

Launched 2015, retired in 2023.

Wrise is a word processor that makes reading and writing accessible for everyone. As our focus has shifted towards AAC and Wrise downloads have decreased over time, we have taken the decision to discontinue the product.
