Apple has dropped support for iPod touch 2G and iPhone 3G (originally released 4 years ago) in the latest version of the tools that we use to develop iOS software. Because of this, we are longer be able to release updates for Proloquo2Go and Pictello that run on these older devices. As part of this transition, we are requiring that devices have iOS 5.1.1 or later installed to be able to run our apps. This means new versions of our software will only run on iPod touch 3G and later, iPhone 3GS and later, and all iPads. Your existing versions of Proloquo2Go and Pictello will continue to run normally on these older devices.
To address this transition, do the following:
- If you have an iPod touch 3G or later, iPhone 3GS or later, or any model iPad, update to the latest version of iOS. For instructions, see this Apple Support document.
- If you have an unsupported device (iPod touch 2G, iPhone 3G), know that Apple does not let you download older versions of an app from the iTunes App Store. Once a new version of an app is released, the old version is removed and you are unable to redownload it. As a result, if you want to be sure that you have access to a version of Proloquo2Go or Pictello that runs on your device, you will have to save a copy of your current version in a safe place on your computer or to a CD/ DVD, flash drive, or an online service, such as Dropbox. For instructions, see this FAQ.
Note that you cannot share copies of Proloquo2Go and Pictello with other users. Apple encodes information about your iTunes account in the apps that you download, and they can only be installed on devices that are authorized with your iTunes account. So, you must save your own copies of apps to always have access to them.
