Proloquo2Go for Apple Watch: now also for communication!

Innovation is at your doorstep again! Today we released Proloquo2Go 4.0.2, an update that expands its support for Apple Watch. Proloquo2Go for Apple Watch already allowed users with fine motor-challenges to use Apple Watch as a single switch to access Proloquo2Go on an iPhone. Proloquo2Go 4.0.2 now adds the ability to use Apple Watch for communication.

The app provides quick access to a number of pre-programmed phrases as well as a sentence builder on Apple Watch. With the sentence builder simple sentences can be created. To create a sentence, the user can pick from of a number of included sentence starters combined with various nouns or adjectives from over 10 categories.

As third-parties do not have access to Text to Speech on Apple Watch, there will be no speech available. When a sentence is selected it will be displayed full screen and upside-down so that it is easy to read for the communication partner when you flick your wrist in their direction.

Note that you need Watch OS 2 on your Apple Watch and iOS 9 on your iPhone to have access to Proloquo2Go for Apple Watch

This is awesome. Does guided access work for Proloquo2go on the Apple Watch?

anne's picture

Hi Edlyn,

As far as we know, Guided Access is not available on Apple Watch. However, as this is a feature built-in by Apple, you may want to contact Apple at https://expresslane.apple.com/GetproductgroupList.do or visit a nearby Apple Store to make sure!

Best,

Anne

Is Proloquo2Go going to available for the iPad Pro?

anne's picture

Hi Maureen!

We expect that the current Proloquo2Go will run fine on the iPad Pro, but be scaled. We are planning to bring out an update later this year to fully support the iPad Pro at its native resolution, including support for multitasking. However, we have not specific timeline for this yet.

But are watches small enough for kids?

david's picture

I suggest you take a look in an Apple Store near you at the size of the watch. Depending on the age of the kid you might consider it fitting or too large. Do keep in mind that Proloquo2Go for Apple Watch will only give access to a very limited vocabulary (and requires good vision and fine-motor skills to use) so it is really more for occasional or emergency use not suitable for day-to-day communication. It can be a nice extra but cannot replace using Proloquo2go on an iPhone or iPad.

Hello,

Can the iWatch run Proloquo2Go without also having to have an iPhone?

Thank you,
Julie

Proloquo2Go for Apple Watch can only be installed if you have an iPhone. However, once installed it can work largely independently. But, please keep in mind it will only give access to a very limited vocabulary (and requires good vision and fine-motor skills to use) so it is really more for occasional or emergency use and not suitable for day-to-day communication. It can be a nice extra but cannot replace using Proloquo2Go on an iPhone or iPad.

Hi,
We're playing with the app on the iWatch and don't seem to have any voice output. Is this the case or are we missing a setting?
Thanks!

Hi Julie,

Unfortunately third-parties do not have access to Text to Speech on Apple Watch, so there will be no speech available. However, the audio will most likely also be very soft so we have to wait and see if Apple comes up with a solution of that in the future.

The idea now is that you can show the phrases to the communication partner. If you tap on a sentence, it will be shown bigger and upside down so it's easier to read.

Best,

Anne
