    David Niemeijer

    David is founder and CEO. He has a PhD in Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, but turned to developing assistive technology after a friend of his became paralyzed in a car accident and needed an on-screen keyboard for his Mac. Founded in 2000, AssistiveWare has grown to be the world-wide leader in Universal Access and communication solutions for Mac and iOS.

    Martijn Leopold

    Martijn is CTO. He met David in high school many years ago. After studying Cognitive Sciences he developed exhibits at Science Center Nemo in Amsterdam. Later he founded his own business “Hoofdwerk”. In 2010 he joined AssistiveWare as a partner bringing to the table a wealth of experience in web development and product design.

    Tatjana Acimovic

    Tatjana joined the Communication team as Junior Graphic Designer. As the youngest member of the company, she wants to make a difference with her fresh, young and creative mind. Besides design, she’s very passionate about yoga, travel, photography and cooking.

  • Enrique BallesterosEnrique Ballesteros

    Enrique is a member of the Communication Team as well as the Support Team. He offers customer support for both French and Spanish. Enrique loves to help others, and truly believes that education is the only way to grow. Enrique is also a musician, playing guitar, drums and many other instruments. He was born and raised in Madrid (Spain).

  • Joe BarnickJoe Barnick

    Joe is a member of our Support Team and lives in the state of New York. Having Spinal Muscular Atrophy, Joe uses AssistiveWare's virtual on-screen keyboard, KeyStrokes, to access his Mac and has been involved with several AssistiveWare projects over the years. With his remarkable eye for detail and instinct for helping others, he supports the entire Team in their daily work.

  • Magali Barthere

    Magali Barthere

    Magali is a member of the support team, living in France, near Toulouse. She has a computer science engineer degree. Her younger son has complex communication needs, and so she is trained to AAC and emergent literacy instruction. She advocates for social and school inclusion for everyone.

  • Maggie Casas

    Maggie Casas

    Maggie is a marketer with a strong background in Digital Marketing. She likes to make sure that all AssistiveWare’s marketing decisions are data-driven. Originally from the Dominican Republic, she lived in Canada and Spain before calling Amsterdam home. Maggie loves practicing yoga and planning new trips to discover the world.

    Tara Coghlan

    Tara is a part of the Communications Team, and has a background in UX Copywriting and translations. She’s learning web design on the sly and spends her free time dancing, drawing and doing yoga.

  • Nieke Frantzen

    Nieke Frantzen

    Nieke is our Office Manager. Originally from the Netherlands, she grew up in Spain and has been living in Amsterdam for longer than she can believe. Time flies. Aside from ensuring a smooth office-run and using fanciful language, she is all about music and worldly adventures.

  • Pam Harris

    Pam Harris

    Pam is a member of both the Support and Communication Teams, and monitors our social media communities. She brings more than two decades of experience as mother, caregiver and advocate for her adult son with significant disabilities, including complex communication challenges. Pam has completed the Assistive Technology Application Certificate Program (ATACP).

    Amanda Hartmann

    Amanda is a Speech-Language Pathologist with over 18 years experience working in schools and with families and as a technology consultant. All this has led to a passion for working with children and young adults with disabilities and learning difficulties. She loves sharing what she knows about Augmentative and Alternative Communication and Literacy!

    Patty Heine

    Patty is a member of the support team, living in Oklahoma City. She is the mother of two boys, one of whom has complex communication needs, and inspires her to advocate for inclusive educational opportunities for more young students. Patty has a Master of Education – Professional Counseling degree.

  • Muriël Kok

    Muriël Kok

    Muriël is the market research manager at AssistiveWare. After studying Communication Sciences in Nijmegen, she worked at several (international) qualitative research agencies for over ten years. She is keen to fully understand our users and their needs, to make our products and services even more user-centered.

  • Joop Laan

    Joop Laan

    Joop is a web developer with a passion for usability and accessibilty. He works on improving and maintaining the websites of AssistiveWare. Aside from his role as a web developer, Joop is also part of AssistiveWare's Communication Team.

  • Marcel de Laat

    Marcel de Laat

    Marcel studied graphic design at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. As AssistiveWare's graphic designer he is part of the Communication Team, and takes care of all our visual communications. If he is not busy behind his Mac, he is probably beating Marco in the squash-arena or roaming the roads on his Beemer motorcycle.

    Sophie Lap

    Sophie is a member of the Communications Team. She joins AssistiveWare with a background in PR and an interest in making a positive contribution to the AAC community. Sophie was born and raised in London to Dutch parents, and is enjoying getting back to her Dutch roots now she’s living in Amsterdam.

  • Jennifer Marden

    Jennifer Marden

    Jennifer is a clinical consultant for AssistiveWare, working on vocabulary design and AAC implementation training. Jennifer specializes in AAC for children and adults with a wide variety of communication disorders, and has provided AAC services in school, hospital, clinic, home, and adult day program settings.

  • Marco NiemeijerMarco Niemeijer

    Marco is an independent videographer and the author of AssistiveWare's video productions. Marco visits families and schools around the world to capture the stories and experiences of assistive technology users to inspire others in similar situations. Marco studied fine arts at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. He is also an independent recording artist.

    Dorrit takes care of finance at AssistiveWare. After studying human geography she worked as a financial officer in several international organizations. She enjoys thinking outside the box. Besides work, Dorrit is passionate about many things — gardening, traveling and language.

  • José Antonio PérezJosé Antonio Pérez

    José is originally from Valencia in Spain, where he worked in assistive technology research at Universidad de València for five years. He joined the AssistiveWare team as a product designer. José loves Indie movies and photography.

  • Erin SheldonErin Sheldon

    Erin Sheldon is a literacy and language development specialist for Assistiveware. She is the mother of a teenage daughter diagnosed with autism and Angelman syndrome. She is an advocate for inclusive schools and communities. She earned her Masters in Education studying the learning needs of students with complex disabilities.

    Nathan Swett

    Nathan Swett is an assistive technology specialist and the CEO at the Center for Advancement of Technology in Education (C4ATE), a nonprofit providing training to schools and families in Southern California. He currently is a doctorate candidate at San Diego State University (SDSU) in Educational Leadership K-12.

    Saudamini is a UX designer who’s been designing for accessibility since 2016. A serious lover of illustrated books, she worked as an illustrator in India before moving to Helsinki to study Interaction Design. Outside of work she loves to cook for people, watch anime and travel.

    Steven is part of the support team. He has several years of experience in providing technical support and enjoys helping out our users with their questions and problems. He is born in Belgium and has lived and worked in different places around the world. As a Master Scuba Diver Trainer he loves being underwater.

    Yefan Wang

    Yefan is a UX designer who always aims to put the user in the center of every design decision. She has a multidisciplinary background in Applied Computing, Interactive Media and Human-Technology Interaction. By deriving evidence-based insights, she is keen to design meaningful products/services that empower people’s lives.

    Willemijn is a Speech Language Therapist. After working in a private practice, she started working as an AAC consultant. She then decided she wanted to work on a broader range. Working for AssistiveWare gives her the opportunity to share her knowledge about AAC. Serving more users, all over the world.
