auditory scanning

My sister uses switches for step scanning. When I tried the auditory cues she winds up saying everything out loud and then repeats what she wants to say when she selects it. Is there a way to set it up so she hears the auditory cues in headphones and when she selects what she wants to say then it speaks it out loud? If not, is this scheduled for an upcoming update?

Hi Sarah,

Hi Sarah,
You can adjust the Secondary voice.
In Proloquo2Go, Open the Options menu
Tap Speech and Language
Under Voices, tap the little blue circled i at the end of the active voice row
Here you can set the Secondary Voice, volume, rate

I tried that but it only

I tried that but it only changed the voice of the cues. Both the auditory cues and what she selected to say were spoken out loud or when I put headphones on everything was said in the headphones and nothing spoke out loud. Can you only change the voice of the cues? I was hoping to make the auditory cues private so only she could hear them and it only spoke out loud when she selected what she wanted to say.

Dear Sarah, I am sorry but my

Dear Sarah, I am sorry but my response didn't post. Most likely, I forgot to hit Save.

I don't know if what you are trying to achieve is possible and I am consulting with my colleagues for confirmation.

I am unsure if the output from the device will work so that the headphones will pick up only the auditory cue.

Dear Sarah,

Dear Sarah,
As I suspected, this is not possible because the iOS will not support it. We would love to offer such a feature but because the iOS does not support this, we added support for a secondary voice.

That is unfortunate. Please

That is unfortunate. Please pass along to keep that in mind when making updates to proloquo in the future, if it is possible. My sister is 34 years old. She attends a day program and is out in the community. It isn't appropriate for her to be speaking out loud everything she scans and then hope that someone recognizes the different voice or that she repeated something to know when she is trying to communicate. We will just have to keep using the dynavox and hopefully someday soon there is a fix for this. Thank you for checking on this for me.

Dear Sarah,

Dear Sarah,
We will certainly stay aware of any new technology that is added to iOS that will support this feature and move forward with adding it to Proloquo2Go.
Kindly,
Pam

Hmmm... comment didn't save.

Hmmm... comment didn't save. Are you saying that you can't have different volumes for the auditory scan and the speak voice? Ideally two different voices at two different volumes would be best. While I'd like a "private" using headphones the above solution would work.

That said, an apple hardware guy told me they can output to bluetooth with headphones plugged in. The way it would have to work is plug into the headphone jack for the "private" scan and the speak would have to go out to a bluetooth speaker which needs to happen, anyway, given the low volume of the ipad's speaker output.

Hello Fred,

Hello Fred,

Currently, audio splitting on an iOS device is not technically possible. However, our team continues to explore ways to make this happen as you are not the first to ask about this.

It makes sense that the scanner would prefer their options be quietly and privately spoken to them and only intended messages be audible to a communication partner.

Right now, you can select a different Second Voice and adjust the volume. These settings can be found by:

Opening the Options menu by tapping the gears button
Tap Speech and Language
Tap the little circled "i" at the end of the active voice's row
Here you can set a Secondary Voice and adjust the Relative Volume, Speech Rate and Voice Personalization.

Hope this helps.

Kindly,

Pam

I found this article that

I found this article that describes something similar in another app... would this work at some point? Looks like there's a setting within this app that define which "side" (L or R) is used and then they split the port. http://tapspeak.com/drupal/node/29

Hello Cathy,

Hello Cathy,
Thank you for sharing this resource. Please know, left and right splitting is not the same as splitting between built in speaker and external speaker. iOS prevents as far as Apple had told us the latter.

Left and right splitting is possible with recorded audio, with Text to Speech it is more complex.

The link you provided will only work on recorded audio. At this time, you cannot record or playback audio in Proloquo2Go.

Hope this helps.
Pam

This is not to be rude... but

This is not to be rude... but to be helpful. I don't know how they did it, but GoTalk app does feed auditory cues through the headphones and the voice through the main speaker. This does not work with bluetooth headphones, only with plug-ins
