Transitioning from Basic Voc (requesting) to Core Vocabulary

HI Everyone,
Three of the young people we are trying to help are teenagers who are currently using Prologquo2Go, but with the Basic Vocabulary, mainly requesting things. Everyone is on board with the importance of Core Vocabulary, but are fearful of changing the board all at once and losing the gains in choice making that have taken place. Any suggestions regarding how to transition to the Core Vocabulary would be much appreciated. Thanks Anne

Hello Anne -

Hello Anne -

The concern is perfectly understandable.

We strongly encourage you and your colleagues to embrace the "more is better" mantra. : ) As our CEO David Niemeijer says, "Give AAC users as many words as they can see and touch."

Please know that Proloquo2Go 4 comes with the Crescendo vocabulary and it's 3 levels and using a Crescendo vocabulary significantly limits the need to do a lot of customizing.

We suggest starting with the grid you think the user will end up using. The grid size depends on a few factors. This page from the Manual describes the considerations for choosing the grid size: http://download.assistiveware.com/proloquo2go/helpfiles/#/section/10

The amount of vocabulary increases as the grid size increases. Our suggestion is to start with the largest grid size possible and then hide buttons to introduce and model for the user at a later time.

Use the Environmental Inventory to help guide you to personalize the fringe vocabulary. The Environmental Inventory is on Page 79 of the Proloquo2Go Manual - here is a link to the page: http://download.assistiveware.com/proloquo2go/helpfiles/#/section/62

Our e-Learning video on transitioning from Proloquo2Go 3 to Crescendo will be very helpful:
